Social District Establishment
Summary
Shakopee is moving ahead with a social district, so soon you may be able to grab a drink from a downtown bar and walk around with it. The idea is to boost foot traffic and bar/restaurant business, while Stillwater is still debating its own rules.

Impact analysis
Expect a lift for downtown bars and restaurants from extra foot traffic, plus some city costs for permitting, signage, and enforcement.
Downtown bars, restaurants, and people who want to sip while they stroll get the upside.
Residents and families who want quieter, alcohol-free downtown spaces could see more public drinking and noise.
