4 issues in zoning with medium priority
Panhandle lot variance at 908-912 5th Street East
An applicant sought a variance to reduce the required lot size so two panhandle lots could be created at 908 5th Street East, affecting the properties at 908, 910, and 912 5th Street East. Panhandle lots can change neighborhood density and access patterns. The public hearing gave neighbors a chance to weigh in.
Setback and building orientation variances at 1100 Bluebell Road
Two variances were proposed for 1100 Bluebell Road: one to exceed the maximum corner side setback in the N2 zoning district by roughly 175 feet, and one to deviate from the building orientation requirement for residential districts. Both would shape how the property can be developed.
Athletic Field Signage Regulations
The city is considering changing the sign ordinance to allow scoreboard and athletic field signage at school district and city-owned fields — good news for local sports programs.
Certificate of Appropriateness for 17 Bridge Square
The Boston Shoe Store building at 17 Bridge Square needs a Certificate of Appropriateness before work can proceed, and the commission was set to review the proposed scope of work. These decisions shape how downtown's historic storefronts evolve.
